5 out of 5 stars A 'must have" for any forensic artist   November 6, 2005

There's nothing more I can say that hasn't already been said; this book is an absolute must for any forensic artist, and deserves every accolade it receives. But, I would be remiss if I didn't also thank Karen, and Betty Pat, for so unselfishly sharing their experience and incredible knowledge of the field. Simply put, "Forensic Art & Illustration" is a classic.

This is an excellent resource for those who are pursuing a career in forensic art. The information is comprehensive and is formatted in a way which makes it esay for the reader to focus on the key aspects of the subject.

I would highly recommend this book to any & all who have an interest in this subject matter.

Karen T. Taylor has made a significant contribution to the forensic and criminal investigative community with her book, Forensic Art and Illustration. I believe that this is absolutely essential for anyone interested in forensic facial art and more importantly from my perspective the identification of unknown remains. As a nationally renowned authority on homicide and death investigation I personally recommend that this book be part of any homicide investigator's library of references. I have utilized Ms. Taylor's information in my Practical Homicide Investigation seminars and have had the opportunity to personally experience firsthand her expertise in my own research and documentation of forensic procedures.

5 out of 5 stars A remarkable book from a remarkable woman!   June 19, 2005

I have been a freelance sculptor for over 16 years with a majority of my work being in special prosthetic make-up effects for the Hollywood film industry. I am now currently working as an Anaplastolgist. I am always looking for new things to learn to better my skills. I purchased Karen's book about two years ago and was immediately hooked. Being a sculptor, I first tried to do a reconstruction on my own using the book as a guideline. I had the opportunity to show my attempt to Betty Pat. Gatliff when I attended her two week course in Oklahoma. Although I had a few errors in my process, the book had guided me very well. I then had the great opportunity to learn forensic drawing techniques from Karen herself in Arizona this year. Her techniques which are clearly layed out in the book transformed this sculptor's drawing abilities. The book is very easy to read, contains loads of photos and examples, and lots of step by step instruction that will have you surprising yourself with your results. My book is so worn out, and covered with clay and graphite, that I may have to get another one to keep front and center on my shelf with all my favourite books. You better buy two!

5 out of 5 stars forensic art and illustration   April 25, 2005
There can be no doubt in anyone's mind that `Forensic art and illustration' is a highly significant and finely crafted work, it walks the reader through every characteristic of forensic art starting with a history of the subject from its very beginnings through every single aspect of its practical application and responsibilities of those who are or wish to practice it.

Using a wealth of knowledge that only years of first hand experience can bring both Karen T Taylor and co-author Betty Pat Gatliff will guide the student, or professional, with a wise, firm and friendly hand resulting in an impossibility to close this book without the feeling that you have learnt something vast, new and exiting, or, resist the desire to bury yourself amongst its pages again and again and again.

With many references for further reading and study it is the most complete and accurate volume on the subject you could hope to find.
In short `Forensic art and illustration' is as masterful as its authors and an invaluable aid for anyone interested in sculpting or drawing the human face at any level... a must have!
