Product Description
Actively participate in each phase of the interview process outlined in this book and you'll be on your way to achieving success on your fire department interview! Focused on both the entrance, as well as the promotional interview, this training manual features a thorough explanation of the fire department oral interview process -- from the examination announcement and eligibility list to resume guidelines and post-interview procedures. Helpful methods for fielding firefighting questions and developing problem-solving skills are also highlighted. A valuable practice section at the end of the book arms readers with the "do's" and "don'ts" they need to make a good first impression while avoiding common pitfalls during the interview process.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad   January 20, 2008

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who has not ever applied to a fire department. But at the same time if your looking for a book with possible questions that you could be asked, this may not be the book for you. This book covers the whole hiring process in general from the physical test, written test and verbal interview. My only complaint with this book is that it didn't go into enough detail about possible questions in the verbal interview.

If you have no experience in fire department hiring then this is a great book, however if your looking for advice on verbal interview (something that is completely different then any other interview you have had) I would suggest "Smoke Your Firefighter Interview" by Paul S. Lepore. It does not cover the physical, or written application part of the hiring process, its basically a list of questions your could be asked, and the answers they are looking for, and the reasoning.

If you can, buy both, if your like me and made it to the interview once and what to be a little more prepared then this may not be the book for you.

5 out of 5 stars firedept' interview review   August 29, 2007
I found the book to be very resourceful. It gave me heads up on what to expect as a new firefighter trying to get hired. I showed a lot of firefighters this book and they say that "they wish they knew about it when the went to their interview" because some of them didn't get hired after the oral interview the first time.
