Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Surgical technology students must memorize the names, characteristics, and purposes of hundreds of instruments used in general and specialty surgeries. The ability to differentiate instruments quickly and accurately can be a deciding factor in the success-or failure-of a procedure, yet there has been no book that presents, in one volume, the instruments students must memorize until now. Differentiating Surgical Instruments offers a close-up look at the tips of over 700 cutting, clamping, grasping, retracting, and other surgical instruments to help students clearly and effectively distinguish among them.

I bought this book since I am new in the OR as a newly grad RN.I like how the book gives uses and other name for the instruments.

5 out of 5 stars best visual aid   May 12, 2007

I bought a few books that deal w/ this subject when I got a new job as an OR nurse. this book is the best at allowing a person to study instrument recognition without having to have the actual instrument to refer to. I was able to go to work, scrub in, and w/ very few exceptions, know exactly what I was looking at.

3 out of 5 stars Not much on the differentiation, but a good catalogue   November 4, 2006

The title led me to believe the book would go into depth regarding the subtleties in differentiating between instruments which are very much alike. Instead, the book acts as a good text for the surgical tech student who is still working on getting the basics under his belt. Instruments aren't really differentiated in the book so much as listed with pictures according to specialty. It's good as a general reference, but not for any detailed study.

5 out of 5 stars Very helpful study guide   July 19, 2006

Of the several books I own on surgical instrumentation, this one has the most clear and useful pictures of the instruments. The spiral binding is student-friendly and the info on each picture is a helpful study guide. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to learn their instruments.

Anyone who needs help with surgical instruments this is a very good book. It has pictures of the instruments far away and up close so you can see the tips.
